Detroit, MI – Anti-Israel demonstrators left a woman with two black eyes and in hospital after storming into a Democrat Christmas party.
Demonstrators confronted Congressman Shri Thanedar after he renounced his membership of the Democratic Socialists of America over its support of an “antisemitic’’ Times Square rally.
Thanedar was addressing his constituents at the Common Pub near Wayne State University in Detroit when the protesters, who were calling for a ceasefire in Gaza, started chanting ‘Free Palestine’.
Jonathan Kinloch, who chairs the local Democratic party, told local Detroit media: “They were being disruptive, and they were not supposed to be there. The owner asked them to leave, I asked them to leave, they refused to leave.”
When the protesters refused to leave, a brawl ensued, leaving Bobbie Johnson, a local party activist, hospitalised.
“They came in here – they bust me in my head!” she said as she wiped blood off her face in a video from the event. Afterwards she said the protest was “unreal.”
“I live in a community that’s diverse. I do a lot of work in the Muslim community. I have nothing against Muslims.”
Up to 30 demonstrators swarmed the Detroit bar on Saturday night.
Former Detroit police commissioner Bernice Smith, 91, was filmed hitting protesters with a cane.“Get outta here,” she yelled.
Protestor Sammie Lewis said they were the victims. “We were met with violence for calling for an end to genocide,” she said.
“One part of our messaging is the Democrats are taking a page out of the Zionist book – they are essentially assaulting us and playing the victim.”
Detroit Police are investigating the incident.
