A Norwegian medical student was suspended from her studies in Warsaw after she demonstrated with a sign that read “Keep the world clean” and a drawing of the Israeli flag in the trash.

Marie Andersen, a Norwegian medical student at the University of Warsaw, was suspended from her studies after demonstrating in Poland with a sign that caused an uproar in the country.

In the demonstration, the student waved a sign with the inscription “Keep the world clean” while under the inscription was a drawing of the Israeli flag inside a trash can.

After many claimed that this was a demonstration of antisemitism, she later published a half-hearted apology.

She wrote: “During a pro-Palestinian demonstration on October 21 in Warsaw, I carried a sign with the Israeli flag, which was only a response to the Israeli government’s activity against innocent Palestinians.”

Andersen stated that “the protest was not intended to be towards any person of Jewish origin or towards the Jewish religion. The meaning behind the poster was also reflected in an interview conducted during the protest and it saddens me that the social media misrepresented my intention.”

She also wrote: “Antisemitism or hatred towards religions has no place in this world. There is also no place for the killing of any citizen on either side of the conflict. I apologize to anyone who was hurt.”

“I also want to apologize to the pro-Palestinian environment for the damage caused by the creation of an incorrect perception of the movement,” she added at the end.
