Bochum – The Sultan Ahmet Mosque of the Turkish-Islamic Union of the Institute for Religion (DITIB) in Bochum was the victim of an Islamophobic attack. Late in the evening, unknown people tried to set fire to the mosque’s shutters and smeared two Stars of David and a swastika on the front door with a black pen.
DITIB Mosque Chairman Güngör Kadir Güven explained that they noticed the incident after morning prayers. “Fortunately, despite several attempts, the shutter did not catch fire, but if it had, it would have been a tragedy,” Güven continued. The chairman strongly condemns this attack on the mosque and demands that the perpetrator or perpetrators “be caught and brought to justice as quickly as possible.”
