After the attacks on Israel by the terrorist organization Hamas, many cities in Germany showed their support for Israel by hoisting the Israeli flag. At the same time, there have been numerous incidents in recent days in which Israeli flags have been the target of attacks – Israeli flags are becoming the target of hatred.
These frightening developments raise the question of growing anti-Semitism in Germany: is a new form of hate brewing in Germany?
The number of attacks on Israel flags (more here) is increasing: flags have been attacked in cities such as Mainz, Stade and Heilbronn. In Mainz, for example, a flag in front of the town hall was torn down and burned by unknown people – while other flags were not attacked. Mainz Mayor Nino Haase reacted sharply and emphasized that such behavior would not be tolerated.
Similar scenarios also played out in other cities. In Stade, a group of young men tried to steal an Israeli flag from the town hall. When the police arrived, they fled. In Braunschweig, four young men also stole an Israeli flag that was hoisted in front of the town hall. The list of cities in which flags were stolen or attacked is long: Incidents involving hoisted flags also occurred in Berlin, Heilbronn, Salzgitter, Braunschweig, Stralsund, Bremerhaven and Leverkusen.
