France – Neo-Nazi and antisemitic leaflets found in Gurs

Camp de Gurs

Gurs – Three arrests were made on Wednesday, September 13, as part of a national investigation carried out by the Rouen public prosecutor’s office. In Gurs, in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques, antisemitic leaflets had been distributed earlier, surveillance around the Gurs Camp memorial was reinforced.

Neo-Nazi leaflets of an antisemitic, racist and homophobic nature, aimed at “reestablishing the domination of the white race in Europe” were distributed.

There were fears of damage to the Gurs Camp memorial, a place where more than 50,000 people, including 27,000 Spanish republicans or 14,000 German “undesirables”, were interned before being deported to extermination camps during the Second War.

All week, before this raid, gendarmerie units were stationed daily near the memorial. Surveillance dictated in particular by the damage to similar monuments in Brittany last July following the distribution, there too, of neo-Nazi leaflets.
