Hackney, London – Officers from Met Police were on patrol in Stoke Newington High Street at around 12.30pm on Saturday (June 3) when they were stopped by a member of the public.
They were informed that a man had reportedly assaulted a person on the street while making antisemitic remarks.
The man was tracked down by the police and arrested on suspicion of racially aggravated assault. A spokesperson for Met Police claimed that the man then went on to assault officers too.
He also said to have damaged a police van and was further arrested in relation to these offences.
He now remains in custody and the incident is being treated as a hate crime by the police.
