Munich – The Munich police wants to remove an officer who also guarded the president of the Israelite religious community from the service because of disparaging chats.
The police officer, Michael R., allegedly distributed racist, National Socialist and antisemitic statements in internal police Whatsapp groups or private messages.
Michael R., who also served as a bodyguard of the president of the Jewish community, Charlotte Knobloch, allegedly wrote to his police colleague that he would prefer Dachau rather than Auschwitz or Flossenbürg as the destination to his boss, because one would come home earlier – and the other replies: “But not the one who cleans the oven must.”
“Trust has been irreparably destroyed,” said the representatives of the Munich police headquarters before the Munich administrative court. The Bureau wants to remove the 43-year-old Michael R. from the service. His lawyer Michael Gimpel says that R. was just looking for a verbal outlet for his work, that he is in no way xenophobic, right-wing extremist or antisemitic. In the end, Michael R. was demoted by two levels to the position of detective; he remains a police officer.
