Prčanj – An antisemitic graffiti was noticed yesterday on the building of Villa Karmel, a former children’s summer house, which is owned by the Jewish Women’s Society. The Jewish community calls on the authorities to react.
“On behalf of the Religious Community of Jews, I declare that we were shocked when we found out about this act of vandalism,” Chief Rabbi of Montenegro Ari Edelkopfa told CdM.
On behalf of the Religious Community of Jews, he added, I declare that we were shocked when we learned about this act of vandalism.
“There was never any place for such provocations in Montenegro in the past and there should be no place in the future either. The unique atmosphere of harmony and love among everyone in Montenegro must remain so. I always tell the thousands of Jewish guests who come here about the special history and warm brotherly love that has always existed in Montenegro”, says Edelkopf in a statement to CdM.
According to him, an example of this is the Karmela house in Prčanj, originally intended for the treatment of children.
“During World War II, a number of Jewish families fled to Carmel’s summer home to seek shelter, unaware of the danger, and were arrested there by Italian fascists. I call on the competent authorities to investigate this act of vandalism and provocation,” Edelkopf concluded.
