Haaksbergen – The controversial banners, hang at the corner of Veldmaterstraat and Bonifatiushof in Haaksbergen, directed against the corona policy of the Dutch government, include a drawing that refers to the ‘Ewige Jude’, a controversial caricature from the Second World War and widely used in right-wing extremist circles. Displaying it in public is a criminal offence.

The controversial banners have been hanging there for some time and are the result of a conscious action by Haaksbergen resident Eric Smilde against the corona policy. Complaints from local residents and the opposite Montessori school mean that the issue was brought to the attention this week. The resident has announced that he will only remove them when the QR code is abolished.
