Youth hockey team suspended over antisemitic video: ‘Fucking Jews’
Los Angeles, CA – The Los Angeles Jr. Kings suspended 15 players and three coaches following an incident in which a player on the 14U Bantam AAA team was captured on video appearing to do a Nazi salute while individuals laughed and could be heard making disparaging remarks toward Jews.
The 9-second clip includes what sounds like, “Are you a Nazi?,” “Fuck the Jews” and “Fucking Jews.” Team officials became aware of the video before the final game of a Las Vegas tournament in March and decided to suspend all those who attended and coached while the incident is investigated.
In a statement on the program’s website, the Jr. Kings acknowledged the incident and confirmed their players were involved.
“Today the LAJK communicated to the players & coaches that as a component of their suspension they will be required to participate in a mandatory educational program; comprised of sensitivity and social media training administered by outside professionals experienced in impactful positive youth education.
“We are a club that prides itself on being a community; one that fosters values such as friendship, respect and teamwork, and upholds ideals like diversity, equality and tolerance.”
While the team plays and practices in the same facility as the Los Angeles Kings, it is not owned or operated by the NHL franchise.
“Since we were made aware of the incidents of March 9 we have been in regular communication with the LA Jr. Kings, a recreational club team operating out of our training facility,” the Kings said in a statement to The Athletic. “We fully supported their decision to indefinitely suspend all players and coaches after they conducted an immediate internal investigation. The LA Kings have zero tolerance for this type of behavior. We now await the results of the SafeSport investigation done by [the California Amateur Hockey Association], on behalf of the Pacific District and USA hockey.”
