Liberty, NY – A Rockland-based yeshiva near upstate Liberty was set on fire and multiple swastikas were spray-painted on the building, state police said.

The yeshiva’s barns were found damaged on Jan. 28 when Sullivan County authorities responded to a 911 call of a structure fire at 30 Mineral Springs Road. The fire was reported at 5:38 p.m., police said.

Yeshiva Deah Yoreh, affiliated with Congregation Bais Medrash Ohr Chaim on Forshay Road in Monsey, is located on a former farm in the upstate community of White Sulphur Springs, state police spokesman Steven Nevel said.

“A check of the two barns on the property revealed numerous swastikas painted on the walls,” Nevel said. “We’re investigating this as a hate crime.”

The White Sulpher Springs Fire Department extinguished the flames, Nevel said Sullivan County arson officers also are investigating.
