Cleveland man sentenced for harassing communication to synagogues

A message of zero tolerance was sent to the community after a Cleveland man was sentenced to 180 days in jail Aug. 22 for leaving harassing telephone messages at Heights Jewish Center Synagogue in University Heights, Temple Israel Ner Tamid in Mayfield Heights and Northern Hills Synagogue in Cincinnati.

Abdulrahman Abukhalil was arrested April 17 on two counts of harassing communication. During the sentencing, he was fined $700, sentenced to 180 days in jail, received two years of active probation followed by two years of inactive probation and was told to have no contact of any kind with the victims by the judge.
