Hoogezand – The incident occurred in the town of Hoogezand in the province Groningen in the northeastern part of the Netherlands, near the train station that was used during the Second world war for the transport of local Jews to Nazi concentration camps where almost all died.

According to Dutch broadcaster NOS, on the surface of the monument there were numerous images of Nazi symbols.

“I’m just stunned that such action may occur in our city or anywhere else,” said Rhine of Monica, the mayor of the municipality of Groningen, according to the web site NL Times .
