Vandals desecrate Hartford cemetery
Hartford, CO - Vandals toppled several dozen gravestones and caused thousands of dollars of damage to the Congregation Ados Israel Cemetery at Tower Avenue and Waverly Street, police said Saturday.
Spokeswoman Nancy Mulroy said at least 40 stones were knocked down. A witness said the toppled stones included one for an Afghanistan veteran.
The superintendent of the cemetery told investigators that the vandalism spree will cost more than $20,000 to repair. He said he was notified of the damage by a congregation member who regularly visits his son's grave.

The vandalism occurred sometime over the last week. Most of the headstones that were overturned were secured to their bases, so they will need extensive repair work. One monument was more than six feet tall when standing.
