Assailant of Jewish community president sentenced to two years in prison

Budapest – The 21 year old youth entered the Budapest Jewish Community's synagogue and called anti-Semitic slogans. He repeated the act at a later date when the 60 year old President of the Jewish Community Andrew Kerenyi filmed him on his mobile telephone, the assailant beat the Community President in his face and on his chest, injuring him.

 

Hungarian Police officers arrived swiftly at the scene and arrested the youth. He has now been tried and sentenced to two years in prison.

 

The Jewish Community hopes that the punishment will deter future antisemitic attacks.
