Antisemitic Incidents in NSW - May 2012 (10 Incidents)

At approximately 3.50pm, a man was picking up his daughter from the kindergarten at the South Head Synagogue, Rose Bay and parked nearby. Upon returning to his vehicle a man was waiting for the congregant on his motorbike in his driveway. The POI yelled at the congregant for parking across his drive way. The congregant said he had not parked across the driveway. The POI stated ‘you fucking Jew parking close to my garage’, ‘don’t worry I’ll find you and ill burn your car’, and ‘it’s a pity that the Germans didn’t burn the whole lot of you in the holocaust’. The POI also yelled indecipherable abuse in Italian.

At approximately 3.50pm a man approached a mother picking up her child from kindergarten at the South Head Synagogue, Rose Bay. Stopping approximately 5 metres away from the mother, as she was putting her son in the vehicle, the man made a gun gesture with his hand towards the Synagogue, and made machine gun noises. He also said ‘fucking Jews’. He then left the area in the direction of Bondi Junction. He was eating a sandwich at the time.

At approximately 9.20am the driver of a passing vehicle made a gun gesture towards personnel at Emanuel Synagogue, Woollahra.

At approximately 11.40am the driver of a passing vehicle yelled ‘fucking Jews’ towards Personnel at Kehillat Masada Synagogue, St Ives.

At approximately 1.05pm the driver of a passing vehicle pointed his hand towards a security Officer at Moriah Kindergarten, Bondi Beach, making an aggressive gun gesture and pretending to shoot at him.

At approximately 5.20pm occupants of a passing vehicle were overheard loudly stating ‘I love Hitler’ at Mizrachi Synagogue, Bondi.

A swastika was painted on the bonnet of a car outside Montefiore Home, Randwick. It appeared the swastika had been painted using a finger and red berries from nearby trees. There were also dot-like finger prints on the doors, hub caps and number plate.

In the afternoon, a swastika was seen on the external wall of Emanuel Preschool, Woollahra, adjacent to the main entrance. It was immediately removed.

At approximately 10pm a number of youths were seen inside the car park of North Shore Synagogue, Lindfield. The next morning, property damage was noticed including a camera ripped out, some signs smashed and ripped off, and the keying of a car. No POI descriptions were obtained.

At approximately 9.35pm occupants of a passing vehicle yelled antisemitic verbal abuse towards a congregant walking home from Synagogue at Bondi Road, Bondi. The exact words were not heard.
