Far-right radical arrested on suspicion of damaging Jewish, Soviet memorials
Budapest - Police have arrested Béla Incze, a leader of the far-right 64 Counties Movement on suspicion of vandalising the Holocaust memorial on the Danube embankment in the 13th District last Thursday night.
Antisemitic captions were painted on the monument reading “This is not your country, dirty Jews,” and “You will be shot there” with an arrow pointing to the nearby river.
Police also suspect Incze of vandalising the Jewish memorial on Pozsonyi út also in the 13th District and the Soviet memorial on Szabadság tér in the Fifth District in recent days.
Jobbik MP Gyula György Zagyva told a demonstration of sympathy attended by several dozen people outside the Markó utca prison in the Fifth District Sunday evening that “the desecration of the Jewish memorial on the Danube embankment or anywhere else can easily be described as trivial”.
