Monument to memory of Czech Jews desecrated

Bernovice - a monument in the Town of Bernovice (in Brest Province) to the memory of Czech Jews who perished during the Second World War, has been desecrated. The monument stands at a memorial site in the "Oruzhishe Guy" forest. Unknown persons vandalized the lower part of the monument - a sculpture in the shape of the hand of a man raised to the sky: with the help of an axe they cut pieces of copper out of it, from which the monument is made.

The monument was unveiled on June 24, 1972 in memory of 3,000 Czechoslovak Jews who were shot dead by the Nazis in the "Oruzhishe Guy" forest in June 1942.
