Fredericton - Police are investigating a swastika scrawled on the front door of a synagogue in Fredericton as a potential hate crime.
The 20-centimetre symbol was drawn on the door either late Sunday or early Monday.
Rabbi Yosef Goldman told CTV news members of the Sgoolai Israel synagogue were upset by the incident, but are hoping it will prove to be an isolated act of vandalism.
Fredericton Police spokesman Const. Rick Mooney told the network that the drawing was considered damage to property and he said police will also investigate the possibility that the act qualifies as a hate crime.
The swastika was rapidly cleaned off the door and there was no sign of it on Tuesday.
