Police recorded the number of antisemitic crimes in Berlin
The Berlin police recorded 173 antisemitic crimes over the past year, according to early statistics. This information is included in the reply of the Bundestag on Thursday at the request of the German Green party. In previous years, the number included between 140 and as many as 190 incidents. Most of the perpetrators are neo-Nazis and other activists of the radical right.
Many acts are categorized as hate speech and propaganda, such as antisemitic insults, emails and online publications.
But there were also a number of violent attacks on Jews. Police listed a total of six victims. The actual number of antisemitic hate crimes must probably be much higher; many victims do not report the crimes to the police.
